Skiing in Cortina: A Winter Paradise in the Heart of the Dolomites

Cortina d’Ampezzo, known as a winter paradise in the heart of the Dolomites, is part of the UNESCO World Heritage and captivates with its breathtaking beauty. The town hosted Italy’s first Winter Olympics in 1956 and will once again take center stage in 2026, co-hosting the Games with Milan.

As part of the Dolomiti Superski area, Cortina offers numerous slopes across different ski zones, including Faloria-Cristallo, Lagazuoi-5 Torri, Tofane, San Vito di Cadore, Auronzo, and Misurina. With 36 lifts and 120 kilometers of slopes, skiers can enjoy spectacular views. The new Skyline Cortina cable car connects the Tofane and 5 Torri ski areas, allowing seamless access between them in just 15 minutes.

During the winter season, Cortina comes alive with sports, cultural, and fashion events. Highlights include the Women’s Alpine Ski World Cup on the Olympia delle Tofane (January), the nighttime Snowboard World Cup on Faloria (December), the literary festival “Una Montagna di Libri” (December to April), and the Granfondo Dobbiaco-Cortina (February). Additionally, visitors can enjoy hut dinners, moonlit snowshoe hikes, and ski mountaineering races.
